Dear Sirs:
I recently reinstalled PC Tex version 6, which included bibtex.exe with
your name in the metadata, after a
virus made it necessary for university IT techs to wipe my machine.
I have successfully used PC Tex, including bibtex, for two years before the
reinstallation
Unfortunately, when I run bibtex from the Tools menu in PC Tex, the result
is invariably
"Typesetting was successful
----------------------------------------
This is BibTeX, Version 0.99c (Web2c 7.3.3.1)
The top-level auxiliary file: BibTestTEX.aux
The style file: siam.bst
I couldn't open database file xample.bib
---line 6 of file BibTestTEX.aux
: \bibdata{xample
: }
I'm skipping whatever remains of this command
I found no database files---while reading file BibTestTEX.aux
Sorry---you've exceeded BibTeX's buffer size 5000
(That was a fatal error)"
xample.bib is a file in C:/Program (x86)/texmf-dist/bibtex/bib , supplied
as part of PC Tex 6. In other words,
bibtex can't find its own directory!
I have many other .bib files in a directory of my own. PC TeX 6 has a
"settings" menu that allows one to
supply values to bibtex. However,
BIBINPUT C:\Users\jpboyd\Documents\Textures\TeXInputs
BSTINPUT C:\Users\jpboyd\Documents\Textures\TeXInputs
gives the same result. I used a .bib test file I made with only two entries
so that the buffer size could not possibly be
exceeded, but I always get the buffer size message anyway.
Is there a stand-alone bibtex for Windows 7?
When I double-click bibtex.exe, a tiny black window appears for half a
second and then disappears before I can take any action.
Your suggestions are welcome.
Thanks,
--
