The original spelling was L\"ucking and anyone who can pass for a
native German speaker is welcome to pronounce it that way.
Everyone else should pronounce it like the English work "looking".
Many of my relatives disagree and pronounce the "Lue" part like
the British "loo".

I guessed that. I had a Polish colleague named Jackiewicz some
years ago. (We perversely called him "Jacko" with english pronunciation,
like Michael Jackson.)
