ghostscript 6.00 came out in early February 2000; I am a ghostscript
beta tester, and I can tell you that a very great deal of work has
been done on it since the 5.50 version, particularly for PDF support.

Therefore, if the Aladdin Public License terms are acceptable for
inclusion on the TeXLive 5 CD-ROM, then 6.00 should definitely be the
version distributed.  Details are available at
