[tex-live] Problem with \usepackage{mathbbol} - bug?

Someone here reported a Metafont problem with this small LaTeX source
file when given as input to latex(1) from TeXLive 200309 being run on
Slackware Linux 9.0:

The problem can be reproduced with Metafont on its own:

$ mf
** \mode:=ljfour; mag:=1; input bbold11

The problem doesn't happen with latex or mf from tetex 2.0.2 as
distributed with Slackware 9.0.
