Yes, potentially so. Though right now, it won't use them unless  
fontconfig knows about them (so that the document can specify \font 
\x="Latin Modern Roman" or whatever); if you say \font\x=lmr10, it'll  
load the TFM file and handle it exactly like standard TeX, so you'll  
be dealing with a 256-character subset.

Additional ways to locate "uninstalled" fonts (those unknown to the  
GUI environment) are under consideration, however, as there are a  
variety of situations where this could be useful.
