[tex-live] gs reports error: "Embedded font uses undefined procedure(s)"

many thanks to all for testing. I was also looking at the
pdf and the font, but couldn't find anything that can be the
reason for the error.
For those who interested in further details, here is a quick
summary:
- this happens with Charter fonts only
- ps from dvips is ok
- it's not caused by truncating 512 trailing zeros in the
type1 fonts (tried to put it back -- didn't help)
- it's not caused by the UniqueID (tried with bugfix774 --
didn't help)
- the fonts as extracted from the ps (by dvips) and pdf (by
pdftex) look identical (apart from the subset tag)
