It is compiled. We are not aware of any Windows Perl distribution
with a TL-compatible license.

I could try to compile with different compilers, such as the other
mingw or ms' free VS 2010 Express, and put it up somewhere for
download, but there would only be some point in that if the
alternate compiles got some real testing. And it would be several
weeks before I can get around to it.

I would also like to know whether the text installer ever fails, at
least while virus checking is disabled.
