Regression: Can't use dot folders with aux_dir

Dear all,

As reported first in https://github.com/leo-colisson/robust-externalize/issues/46 and then in https://github.com/latex3/latex3/issues/1570, we realized that it is impossible to write files when the aux_dir starts with a dot. This regression is introduced in TeXLive 2024, and MWE can be found in the above reports.
