Follow-up Comment #1, bug #599 (project tex4ht):

Thanks for the report. I've updated TeX4ht sources, so this error should go
away. In the meantime, you can use this configuration file:

\Preamble{xhtml}
\catcode`\:=11
\pend:def\protect:wrtoc{\let\\\space}
\catcode`\:=12
\begin{document}
\EndPreamble
