[texhax] How does one read *.tex documents?

Hi,

I'm new to linux and have discoovered that many support documents of 
interest to me are written as *.tex files.  How do I translate these 
files into something readable for my monitor and printable for my 
Postscript printer?  I'm running Red Hat Linux 9 and have the TeX system 
installed but cannot figure out how to accomplish the aforementioned tasks.
