[texhax] Citations as footnotes?

Hi,

I was wondering if there is a way to place citations as footnotes. For 
example, if you had two or three citations on a page, those citations 
would appear on that page itself (assuming that was the first 
citation). Subsequent citations in later pages would refer to the 
``footnote" number on the earlier page.

I have seen this done in some books, but browsing around I could not 
find a way to do this with
the standard bibliography styles. I have the latest distribution of 
teTex.

Any help or pointers in this regard would be greatly appreciated.
