[texhax] problem with info command

If TeX-Live is still installed and info is now working then I'd stick
with that, personally.  I don't think there's likely to be a great lot
more wrong with your system that reinstalling teTeX would fix.

In future, as kb said, I'd stick to installing it under /usr/local
(and that goes for everything which doesn't come in a package targeted
to your distribution of Linux).  That's what the /usr/local hierarchy
is for. :-)
