Well, there is my hack which was just written up in the latest TUGboat
can be used to access OpenType fonts as well (anything which InDesign
can access or which one can make a nice .eps of w/ subsetted fonts
which Acrobat Distiller can recompose into more compleat fontsets).
You need to use Omega (or Aleph) to get at the large character sets and
one has to set up the .otp to mimic the layout tables and the .ofm for
the font metrics pretty much by hand, but there's no real limit on what
can be done --- just one's patience.
