Depends on one's needs. In and of itself, I'd say that's a ``no.'',  
however....

There are a number of options though ranging from free (use LaTeXit's  
TeXview.app-like (from NeXTstep) TeX eq -> pdf Service to convert the  
TeX source of an equation into a typeset version) through workable  
(use Windows and use MathType to embed equations as embedded objects)  
through pricey (MathMagic Pro), but although these are serviceable  
enough for varying degrees of publishing people to use, I doubt a  
mathematician would find any of them as comfortable as some dialect  
of TeX set using a suitable editor and plug-in set (e.g., emacs using  
Auctex).
