[texhax] Changing Font Spacing

I'm trying to change the spacing of a font. It's a fixed-width font, so 
(I guess) that should be kind of easy.
Is there some command I can insert in the font definition file, like the 
scaling factor, to get a narrower space between the letters?
Note that I don't want to scale the glyphs, I just want to reduce the 
spacing between them.
