The "fancyhdr" package contains the commands "\fancyhead" and "\fancyfoot"
to customize the head and foot of the page and they have options L, C, R
for controlling placement. With empty arguments you can clear these
fields. Thus with '\fancyfoot{}", you can remove the page number from its 
default position at the foot.
