[texhax] Conflict with mathtools and lucimatx

I didn't use to load any package before babel. I did it with  
\usepackage[10pt]{type1ec} because those are the specific  
instructions, and then I thought to do the same with fixltx2e.

Now ---taking advantage of your generosity: as mathtools  
\RequirePackage{amsmath}, do I need to load amsmath or can I just  
load mathtools?
