[texhax] dviout's default settings

Hello - 



I want to changes the default settings of dviout's 

paper size (from A4 to Letter), 

scale settings of the start view (from 4:4:800 to 7:7:800), and 

scale settings for views 1 through 4. 



I don't want to change these settings, like I do now, each time I run dviout using for instance 

these menu items: >Options>Set Parameters>Paper and >Options>Set Parameters>Display. 

Changes made to these dialogue boxes do NOT survive after the current session; 

settings always revert to their default values in a new session.  

I just can't figure out where dviout reads its default settings. 



I couldn't find a discussion in dviout's Help that stated clearly how to changes default settings. 

I tried the following two ways (that are more or less suggested by Help) to change default settings: 

    1. modifying a file \texlive\2009\tlpkg\dviout\par\default.par (par refers to parameters) and 

     2. modifying mode settings in my system's registry (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SHIMA\dviout).  

These things failed.  (I rebooted after each change.) 



So if you have any suggestions I would very much like to hear them and, 

as always, I'm gateful to anyone who takes a minute to help me.
