[texhax] dash spacing

Hello all:

I'm soliciting opinions about the correct spacing for em dashes --- the
kind that you use to interrupt text like this.  A space on either side of
the dash seems too airy to be right, and no space seems way too tight.
Tiny spaces (\,) are awkward to type, but maybe that's what one needs?
Also opinions about whether it's ok to end a line with a dash --- and how
I'd prevent it if it's not --- are welcome.
