Maybe you haven't updated the updmap database using

     sudo updmap-sys --enable Map=<name-of-the-font>.map

I suggest, as you're using MacTeX, to subscribe to the Mac OS X Mailing 
List:

     http://email.esm.psu.edu/mailman/listinfo/macosx-tex

and post your question there. Please specify where in texmf-local are 
the different files needed for the fonts; that is, where did you put the 
map files (for example, lucida.map for Lucida fonts), the tfm files, the 
type1 files, etc.
