[texhax] best way to do texbook examples

I'm not quite sure what you mean. The TeXbook is the manual for TeX and
all of them will work exactly as-written with the command-line "tex"
executable with any TeX system. Indeed, they will also work as-written
with pdfTeX (so allowing direct PDF output if desired) and (almost) all
of them will work with XeTeX or LuaTeX unmodified.
