TeX Development Fund - Donations
The TeX Users Group welcomes all donations to the TeX Development Fund. Development Fund accounting
is separate from general TUG accounts; donated monies will not be used
for any other purpose. If you wish to make a donation, click here. (Donations are
generally tax-deductible in the US; more info.)
The list of donors for the inaugural
development fund grant round is available.
This is a new process, and we expect that all of the following will
be refined as time goes by.
- The Development Fund Committee is responsible for publicizing the
fund, reading the applications, and determining the awards. See also
the criteria for grant selection.
- TUG would like all substantial donors to participate in this
process. Specifically, consider the total contributions to be divided
into five equal pieces (20% each). Whoever substantially contributes to
each piece may (but does not need to) appoint a committee member. If
there are multiple contributions to a piece, then hopefully those
contributors can work out a joint member. As a baseline, TUG
budgeted US$5000 annually for this.
- Since we accept applications on a rolling basis, the computations
need to be done based on whoever contributes to a given award. We
expect that contributions from organizations will generally be on an
annual basis.
- Clearly borderline cases are possible. We will act in good faith,
and hope that that promise means more than attempting to spell
everything out legalistically. For example, we're not going to quibble
if a contribution ends up being 19.9% of the total.
- All contributors will be publically recognized, unless anonymity is
preferred. Likewise, all contributors will receive the same report on
grants awarded. (Most or all of the information will be available
publically as well.)
- Grants up to US$2000 are awarded at the sole discretion of the
committee. Grants larger than that must be approved by the full TUG Board of Directors.
Finally, we would like to acknowledge that other TeX user groups have
established similar programs. It is not our intention to detract from
or compete with anyone else, but only to do what we can to foster the
growth of TeX.
